Tramuntana - Eastlake Mallorca Properties

imagen imagen imagen

The area of Mallorca known as the Tramuntana is the mountainous area of the island. Made up of ten peaks of over 1000m, the range runs 88km from Andratx in the south-west to Port Pollensa in the North-East and offers shelter to the rest of the island from the harsh north ‘tramuntana’ wind. Walking and cycling are popular activities here and afford the best way to view the area in its true wild form.

The area offers a myriad of different landscapes and atmospheres to suit every taste. Inland, nestling amongst the peaks are numerous stone villages surrounded by tall pines and wild rosemary. For those looking for tranquility and a more traditional Mallorca this is the ideal area, whilst those in search of a more vibrant, touristy area should head to the south west where the white sandy beaches attract large crowds during the summer months.

The northern coast has few beaches and those that are accessible are rocky or pebbly. However, the scenery is some of the most spectacular on the island as the land abruptly drops away to the sea in the form of kilometers and kilometers of tall ragged cliffs. Head further east and you will eventually get to Port Pollensa and the stunning Cap de Formentor with views across to Menorca on a clear day. Long sandy beaches and shallow waters characterise this part of the Tramuntana coast while the distance from Palma draws in a more gentile crowd.
