Migjorn

imagenThe Migjorn is one of the most undeveloped areas of Mallorca although paradoxically it is home to some of the best beaches on the island. Es Trenc is the most notable of these beaches with its long stretch of fine white sands and crystal clear waters flanked by dunes and nature reserves. It is an extremely popular place in the summer for day trippers, but fortunately, the majority of the area has been saved from the developers and there is not a hotel in sight.

imagenLarge stretches of the area are nationally protected Nature Reserves where the Mallorca landscape has been left to meet the beautiful turquoise Mediterranean Sea. As such the area has also become a magnet for birdwatchers and nature lovers of all types.

The rural landscape with its characteristic deep red colour is rich in almond, carob and olive trees and the agricultural traditions are reflected in the character of towns such as Campos, Llucmajor and Santanyi. However, as one of the driest areas on the island the inhabitants of the Migjorn traditionally turned to the sea to make their living. The seaside villages are busy fishing ports and the tiny coves and harbours that dot this stretch of coast are lined with fishermen’s huts seemingly untouched by time or tourism. imagen
